BOOK REVIEW #1: The Diary of Anne Frank

Ever since I was able to speak and read fluent English, I have read many novels in which the main character conveys their genius qualities. The novel, The Diary of Anne Frank, which was written by Anne Frank is one of those novels in which the main character demonstrates her ability to be a genius. The main character, Anne Frank, displays her genius qualities in a myriad of ways. A genius quality that is prominent in the novel is sensitivity. When a person displays sensitivity, they show "an openness to the world, they enrich the experience of life by making it more vivid," according to Thomas Armstrong, who wrote about the twelve qualities of genius. Anne Frank shows this quality in a negative connotation, by displaying her vulnerability to the individuals who surround her. For example, Frank states, "I'm boiling with rage... because of the horrible words, mocking looks, and accusations which are leveled at me repeatedly every day," (64). By stating this, Frank displays her vulnerability by revealing her emotions and reactions to those that surround her in her "Secret Annexe," specifically her mother. She also conveys her sensitivity in a positive way when showing effective emotions such as love. She answers her sensitivity by stating, "Surely it is a great day for every girl when she receives her first kiss? Well, then, it is just as important for me too!" (210). Her statements involving her first kiss with Peter displays the fact that Frank can show sensitivity in a positive matter as well. Through the genius qualities of Anne Frank, I learned that despite the difference in periods between the 1940s and the present day, I was able to connect through the vulnerability and happiness of Frank, despite her dangerous position in hiding from the German Nazis. Because even though she faced that type of fear in the 1940s, she still displayed the emotions and reactions adolescents today still display. So overall, I see The Diary of Anne Frank more than just an incredible historical time piece, it is a work of art that can be emotionally relatable due to the presence of sensitivity, a genius quality that is shown through the eyes of Anne Frank.

I AM A GENIUS

A person who shows genius qualities shows birth to the joy in learning, according to an article created by Thomas Armstrong. Many people show genius qualities in many different ways, one way would be the way a person shows creativity. Adolescents can prove their creativity in their surrounding environment, whether it be in school or whether it be in their personal homes. I show my creativity in school in a few ways. During my lunch period, I usually go up to the library and write on a personal journal. That personal journal usually contains small personal passages, or poems that may turn out to be potential song lyrics. Every wednesday after school, I participate in this drama club. I show my passion here because I can apply my personal feelings and observations and put them in other characters that I portray. I also display my creativity not only at home, but everywhere in my surrounding environment. I have a strong interest in amateur photography and blogging, and I use my phone to capture and edit pictures and I use tumblr as a creative outlet to post those pictures and blog. I'm also a musician, so I'm always on my guitar and my computer covering or creating new songs. This is how I prove myself as a genius, by using my natural creativity and applying it to my surrounding environment.
